BRIDGEPORT, Conn.Former Colorado Rapids head coach, Robin Fraser, has earned a fresh start as the Chief Sporting Advisor to the newest MLS NEXT Pro organization, the Connecticut United Football Club. He reports to the Club’s board of directors.

The Connecticut United Football Club was founded in 2024 and is owned by Connecticut Sports Group. The organization is based in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the Nutmeg State’s second-largest metropolis. The Club announced that Fraser will manage all sporting aspects of the emerging professional men’s soccer club in MLS NEXT Pro. Perhaps Sporting Director or General Manager would be a more familiar title for MLS fans. The player development league includes 27 MLS-owned clubs and five independent clubs.

Both Real Colorado Soccer Club and the Colorado Rapids are members of MLS NEXT.

Fraser was named the Rapids’ ninth full-time head coach on August 25, 2019, and went on to compile a 47-48-34 record across all competitions as the team’s skipper. He was also active both with the Rapids 2 team and the Club’s youth development academy program.

He will oversee initial staffing decisions for both CT United and CT United Academy. It is expected that Fraser will be especially involved in launching CT United FC.

The team will play in a new, 10,000+ seat, state-of-the-art stadium that is being constructed on the Pequonnock River waterfront in central Bridgeport.

André Swanston, Founding Partner of Connecticut Sports Group (CTSG) said, ”Our experience with technology and innovation coupled with Robin’s strategic leadership will prepare us to excel on and off the field.”

In turn, Fraser commented at a recent media event, “I will always be a coach at heart, but I am thrilled for the opportunity to help the CT United FC ownership group build not just a staff and roster, but the foundation of a club culture Connecticut fans can be proud of.”

Fraser was linked with several MLS opportunities this past offseason. Burgundy Wave reported there was interest from LA Galaxy. He was reported to have interviewed with Portland Timbers and New England Revolution for their head coach openings as well as an assistant position with New York City FC. This seems to be a good opportunity for him in the meantime as he figures out his long term future given his recent MLS interest and his family situation.
