In a bit of a surprising turn of events, the Rapids released their second round draft pick Colin Givens before the pre-season trip to Arizona with pretty much no fanfare to show for it. In fact, the only reason anyone found out was because Givens himself put out a cryptic sounding tweet announcing that it didn't work out for him in Denver.

Even more interestingly, the Rapids managed to snag a different player from the second round, Sporting Kansas City's defender/midfielder JT Murray. He is a left back who knows how to get forward, similar to the Rapids' first round selection, Eddie Ababio. Interesting to see how he'll fit in along with the other trialists at left back that the Rapids have taken with them to Arizona for the preseason. Colorado will have a chance to play him today as they face their first pre-season opponent, the team who let him go in Sporting Kansas City.

Good luck to Givens in any endeavors he may have in the future, MLS or not. On his twitter he seems to indicate that he's going for tryouts in Europe. I'm sure Crystal Palace could use you, Colin! (Then again, Crystal Palace just needs warm bodies at this point so that might not be the best example.)

Good luck to J.T. Murray on seeing out his MLS dreams with Colorado, as well.
