While the 2010/2011 edition of the CONCACAF Champions League is winding down to its finish with the finalists Real Salt Lake and Mexican Club Monterrey set to kick off very soon, the newest edition for 2011/2012 is set to begin in May with the drawings for the group stage. May 18th is the date that we'll see who the Colorado Rapids have drawn in the group stage of the competition.

As the winners of the MLS Cup, Colorado will get to skip the preliminary stage and get drawn right into the group stage. The current teams that the Rapids can assure will be in the pot with them are current finalist Monterrey as well as the Los Angeles Galaxy, who won the Supporters Shield last year and got the other automatic MLS group bid. There will also be teams from Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala and Panama involved in the group stage draw. Other teams available through prelim-round qualification will include MLS Cup runner up FC Dallas and Santos Laguna, a Mexican quarterfinalist this year.
