In yesterday's reserve match against Sporting Kansas City, there were two new faces playing with the Rapids side of the squad. Former Arsenal and Watford youngun Ben Gill and former Huddersfield/Oldham defender Andy Holdsworth were both on the squad as trialist players with Gary Smith in attendance to watch

A central midfielder or defender, Gill started his career with Arsenal youth but has quickly fallen down the ranks of English football after a short stint with Watford back in 2007. He has bounced around the lower levels of the Football league and conference, currently playing with Wealdstone FC in the seventh tier of the English Football pyramid.

The 27 year old defender Holdsworth is currently available on a free transfer – probably attractive to the Rapids since they seem to be trying their hardest to keep funds tight this season despite getting extra allocation money for being in the CONCACAF Champions League – after being released by League Two side Morecambe. He has spent his entire career bouncing around the lower levels of the Football league with over 200 appearances at Huddersfield Town and Oldham from 2003-2011.

Getting one or both of these guys will be a boost to the Rapids in what has been a very quiet transfer window for a team still struggling with some injury issues and depth problems in the defense and central midfield at times.
