In what has been a deathly quiet transfer window for the Colorado Rapids, it came to look like we would not be seeing any new signings as 2011 drew to a close. It looks like Gary Smith finally noticed how thin on defense the Rapids are though – specifically at left back – as he's gone out and signed versitile defender and Guadeloupe international Miguel Comminges.

Comminges comes to Colorado with a wealth of experience under his belt in the English and French leagues lower levels, having played at clubs such as the Championship's Cardiff City and second division French club Reims. Reportedly he can play either side of the defense and can also shift up to the midfield if needed, but it's likely that we're going to see most of his reps at left back if he plays any minutes at all for the club this season.

Comminges has been signed just in time for him to be eligible for the Santos Laguna game on Tuesday, but it's doubtful that we're actually going to see him as he might not join the team for another week.
