Yesterday we got plenty of hubbub after we saw the new Rapids away jerseys — we'll see the entire kit later today at the party at LoDo's! — but there was one thing missing from it that, again, we had heard plenty of rumors for: a jersey sponsor.
There had been rumors of a few names this off-season, one of them has actually turned into something for the Rapids, Western Union. According to Tim Hinchey in the new jersey article on the Terrace Blog yesterday, they will be joining as a 'large new sponsor'. He also mentioned that two companies had come very close once again — which seems to be an unfortunate theme for Colorado-based companies he has gone for in the past two years — and will now be looking out-of-state for a kit sponsor in the future.
As for a jersey sponsor, I still see it as not nearly as big a deal as some fans are making it out to be, and I'm still ready to wait for the right deal to come along so they don't get an incredibly low paying one just for the sake of getting one.
