Oscar Pareja told Andre Akpan prior to the season that this was going to be his last chance to get on the field. With four chances to do so, even with an injury crisis permeating the team, he wasn't able to do so except for a short and uneventful sprint out against FC Dallas in the opener.

At that point, it seems that the idea was to cut and run. The Rapids announced earlier today that Akpan was dealt to the New York Red Bulls for a conditional 2015 MLS SuperDraft selection. The conditions, of course, have not been released by MLS.

I've been a fan of Akpan's since the day he was originally drafted, and I'm sad to see him go. Best of luck to him in New York, where hopefully he'll finally be able to beat the hoodoo that's been keeping him so low on the depth chart over here.

Good on him avoiding those grain threshers, though!
