It took a little while between the time that the ABQ Journal originally broke the story and when it was finally made public, but the Rapids finally confirmed the rumor that they would be playing a friendly match against Mexican side Santos Laguna in Albuquerque on July 12th.

Santos and the Rapids last met up way back in the 2011 CONCACAF Champions League, where they quite frankly wiped the floor with a depth-starved Rapids B-side twice. This one should be a lot more fun to watch not only because the team's back-ups are better, but because we won't be getting knocked out of our one chance at CONCACAF stardom this time!

It doesn't hurt that New Mexico is also a somewhat untapped market for potential Rapids supporters, and getting the team down there for a friendly will be a good way to drum up interest.

Are you going to make the drive down I-25 to see the Rapids play in Weird Al's favorite town? We'll see you there, Burgs505 from the last post's comments section!
