Pinball defending and turnovers in the midfield were the stories of the game, as the center of the park was a possession vacuum for the Unites States. O'Neill put in a good shift in the back, but his partner Caleb Stanko was left standing and watching for three of the four goals that Ghana scored. (Though in Stanko's defense, the shot that turned into the second goal was almost impossible to do anything with.)

O'Neill scored the lone goal for the US, his second goal in his last three games for the Yanks. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late and the Yanks never found another goal, let alone a third. Ghana scored on a bullet of a header off a corner kick to end it, and another came right after.
