After going the way of a midfielder and a defender with their first picks of the draft when they selected Marlon Hairston and Grant Van de Casteele, the Colorado Rapids decided to go for a popular mock draft pick by selecting Jared Watts out of Wake Forest. Though, most people expected it to be a first round selection if they were going to snag him.

Watts is a hard-tackling defensive midfielder who will probably slot in behind Nathan Sturgis and Hendry Thomas, at a spot where the Rapids really needed some extra depth. If Thomas doesn't re-sign before next season, Watts might even be pegged to start some games if the Rapids keep their 4-2-3-1 shape from last season.

There will be a quick turnaround from this pick, as only one pick separates the Rapids from this and their next selection, pick No. 35. It will be Colorado's final pick of the first two rounds.
