Colorado went with a pick that not many people had predicted when they selected Marlon Hairston out of Louisville with the 12th overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft on Thursday. An attacking midfielder was one of the many requests that the Rapids could have fulfilled on their minor wish list, and Hairston provides a very intriguing selection.

When he was originally drafted, there were immediate comparisons to Pablo Mastroeni, the current assistant to the technical director and, perhaps, future head coach of the team. When asked about his playing style, he said, "I like to assert myself as an attack minded player. I like to play the ball in the middle of the field. (…) I'm vocal, I like to bring a lot of personality to the team on and off the field. I definitely want to get around the box and score some goals." Sounds like a Pablo-type player to us, though with an attacking mindset rather than a defensive one.

He'll be joining a team that has allowed youngsters to flourish in the past year or so, and he seemed to be excited about the prospect of it, saying "It's very good to be joining a team that allows young players to express themselves". Time will tell just how much playing time he'll get on the team next year, but he provides a very intriguing look into the future of the Rapids attack.
