We've been waiting for quite a while for something to finally become official in the mudbath that is the Rapids coaching situation. On Thursday, the first hammer dropped, with Wilmer Cabrera officially being named the head coach of Chivas USA.

Cabrera was originally seen to be the favorite to take over should Oscar Pareja leave his post as manager of the Rapids, but reports linking him to the open Chivas job had been circulating for over a month before the Goats finally swept through and claimed the Colombian. Cabrera had been the assistant coach of the Rapids since Pareja first came in at the start of 2012, and Chivas will provide his first head coaching position for a senior team. (He had previously spent several years as head coach of the US Men's U-17 team.)

I'm somewhat sad that we never got a chance to see Cabrera cut his teeth in Colorado; he strikes me as a guy who will have a great coaching career in MLS now that he's been given a head coaching shot. We wish him all the best in Cali. Now, we wait for official news on the main man in this whole scenario, Mr. Pareja.
