The Daily Wave: Expectations

This is going to be a confusing as hell season for the Rapids, I can already tell. We're less than a week from the start of the season — well, the rest of the league is, anyway — and our team still hasn't officially named a head coach (the fact that we already know who it's going to be is a mere inconvenience to that storyline) and has several trialists aboard that we have no idea if they're going to sign.

That combined with a bit of a sweep out from the bottom in terms of the team's depth during the off-season leaves them in an odd position. We know they've got some high class talent on the team, and the #RapKids alone should carry them to a good number of wins in 2014. We can't be sure of that, though. Sophomore slumps are a bitch, as are injury problems.

A combination of those could be lethal. Or they might not be. Who the hell knows at this point? Last year we started off the season expecting a second straight mediocre run-out by Oscar Pareja, and were instead pleasantly surprised by a playoff berth. This time around, we won't even get that satisfaction because there's absolutely no agreement on how good or bad this team could be!

Where are the Rapids going to finish in the West? It's absolutely impossible to tell and I have a feeling the waters aren't suddenly going to clear themselves up in the quickly passing days before New York away. But that doesn't mean we can't have fun wildly guessing where they're going to finish up.

So I'm just going to ask you all to give it a go. Where do you think the Rapids finish this season? I think there are legitimate arguments for them finishing as high as third just as there are legitimate arguments for them finishing eighth. Give it your guess!
