There was a bit of a story going on during the 2012-2013 off-season regarding Scottish favorite Jamie Smith. His salary was too much for the team going into the 2013 season and he was coming off of a somewhat unproductive and injury-filled season the year previous. He ended up re-signing for a lower rate after a bit of time in limbo, but his 2013 wasn't one to write home about.

Other than an absolute cracker of a goal (which ended up not only being the first one of the season, but being one of the prettiest ones as well) he only ended up with a handful of appearances, with nothing else to write home about. When he once again got hit with injury, he was quickly overthrown in the team's hierarchy by the gang of youngsters that went on to define the season.

It seems unlikely that Smith is going to make it another year with the Rapids, with his age catching up to him and his injury issues unlikely to get any better as the years go along. If that goal against the Union is the last thing we have to remember him with though, it'll have been a nice going away present to finish off a solid career in burgundy.

Still part of a winner, Jamie!
