QUERÉTARO – Days after losing to a second division Mexican team, the Colorado Rapids had their way with Liga MX opposition. Monday afternoon, the Burgundy Boys beat Querétaro FC 1-5. Also, Miguel Navarro has been sent on loan and might not ever play a game for the Rapids.

It was a mostly first choice lineup for Chris Armas. With the roster as presently constructed, the only starter you’d think might not start at Portland to open the season is Jonathan Lewis (in place of Omir Fernandez). The match was 100 minutes, played in four quarters.

Cole Bassett opened the scoring in the 13th minute off a rebound created by Djordje Mihailović. Braian Galván scored on his signature move to make it 0-2 before halftime.

There was a full line change with a proper second string to start the third quarter. Kamani Stewart-Baynes set up Calvin Harris to make it 0-3. Querétaro got one back but Darren Yapi scored three minutes later from Ralph Priso. Harris got a brace in the 100th to make the final score 1-5.

This has to be seen as a very positive result, especially given last week’s loss to Atlético Morelia. It was a starting lineup most fans would want to see, signaling the team’s healthy. They scored goals. Yay.

Burgundy Wave was informed that the Jasper Löffelsend substitution was planned as he builds fitness after being in Germany to get his green card sorted. Omir Fernandez was a precautionary substitution after sustaining a tackle in the second half.

It’s still annoying to many that these games aren’t available to watch and highlights won’t likely be released. Other MLS clubs have found a way around the Apple TV limitations. We are limited to what the club posts on social and their website. In that, Burgundy Wave generally wonders if what is shared is curated.

Also, Miguel Navarro goes on loan:

Monday morning the club announced left back Miguel Navarro has gone on loan to Club Atlético Talleres. It is a one-year loan for 2024 with an option to buy. This had been rumored basically since the Sam Vines rumors started. Navarro needs to play to get into the Copa America team for Venezuela. He wasn’t going to start over Vines. There’s some questions about whether or not he could work long term in MLS.

Again, Colorado basically got him for free. If they can get a transfer fee out of it and Sebastian Anderson or Jackson Travis can backup Vines, who cares? Navarro could become a Rapids trivia question in a few years, just like Kellyn Rowe.
