ORLANDO – After a week back in Colorado, the Rapids continued their preseason travels to Orlando, FL. On Saturday afternoon, they took on CF Montréal. For Djordje Mihailović, it was a match against his former team. The Burgundy Boys did not disappoint.

Chris Armas is showing what his preferred starting lineup could be to start the season. The only two surprises from the starters were maybe Jackson Travis and Calvin Harris. Sam Vines, Omir Fernandez, and Darren Yapi were held out due to minor injuries. Fernandez has been the most limited in preseason so far.

The match was played in four 30-minute quarters for a full 120 minutes, to allow most players to get a proper runout.

Colorado got off to a good start. Mihailović scored in the opening minutes. Seven minutes into the second quarter, Harris scored on a pass from Cole Bassett. That was Harris’ fourth goal on the preseason and Mihailović’s first.

Montreal scored two goals as well before Basset scored himself, creating a turnover and scoring himself. There’s some confusion as to the order and timing of all the goals given how both clubs were posting on social. Again, it’s really hard to cover, follow, or be a fan of teams in preseason when they’re not playing locally. The clubs not providing a stream makes it worse. We are again limited to the information they share, which may be incomplete.

In any case, both reported Bassett’s goal as in the 62nd minute to make it 3-2.

A free kick saw Conor Ronan send a cross in. Andreas Maxsø knocked the ball down for Rafael Navarro to score. Navarro and Bassett are now on three and two goals respectively after four preseason games.

Rapids 2 midfielder Marlon Vargas came off the bench to set up Jonathan Lewis at the far post to ice the game 6-2. Lewis now has three goals in preseason, two from the run of play.

After a poor start against Atlético Morelia (Lewis with the only goal on a penalty), Colorado now has 16 goals in their last three preseason games. Montréal was not great last year and hasn’t had as good of an offseason as Colorado. Still, it’s hard not to get excited.
