COMMERCE CITY – Colorado Rapids host FC Dallas tomorrow. The Pids are on a four-game unbeaten run. They’ve moved up the table and are feeling good as a result. Meanwhile Dallas are second to last in the MLS Western Conference. They’ve had injuries and things are not clicking tactically. Oh, and it’s a Rapids home game on 420 and it’s Sustainability Night.

When: Saturday, April 20 @ 7:30 p.m. MDT

Where: DICK’S Sporting Goods Park, Commerce City, Colorado

TV/Streaming: MLS Season Pass on Apple TV

FC Dallas Talking Points:

Dallas are off to a bad start this year. They’ve got just one win, which was opening night against last place San Jose Earthquakes. They have six goals in seven games. There’s no player on the team with more than one goal. They’ve been banged up as well. Midfield maestro Alan Velasco has been injured. Jesús Ferreira has been out as well. Croatian striker Petar Musa joined the club for nearly $10 million and just hasn’t had the help. Old man Omar Gonzalez has played in the middle of a lesser defense.

Tactically, they’ve been in a 3-4-2-1. On the road at elevation, that could turn into a 5-2-3 or even a 5-4-1. Dallas typically comes to DICK’s to play conservative, slow the game down, and play for a draw. You know what to expect.

Rapids Talking Points:

What a few weeks it has been for the Burgundy Boys. Rafael Navarro finally scored from the run of play and how has two goals in two games. Zack Steffen and the back line finally got a clean sheet. It was a bit of a wide open games at times against the Quakes, but Colorado finished their chances. They dealt with danger better, even though they did not prevent it as well.

Chris Armas clearly has rebuilt the mentality, culture, and togetherness this team needs to have any success in MLS. There’s just a few things not clicking. The metrics show this isn’t always an energetic pressing team. Djordje Mihailović still hasn’t put in a good 90 minute performance. There’s still a possibility the club has benefitted from circumstance this season, between injuries to opposing talismans, red cards, and penalties.

Colorado Rapids FC Dallas Preview: Betting Odds

Injuries will play a role in this game. Cole Bassett is a late questionable for tomorrow. Kimani Stewart-Baynes is still dealing with an illness. Bassett could fight through his injury. If not, expect Lamine Diack to get his first ever start. Velasco and Paxton Pomykal are out for Dallas and Ferreira is again questionable. That double pivot of Oli Larraz and (even a gimpy) Bassett should be able to cook.

Sportsbooks in Colorado finally have THE RAPIDS has a favorite. FanDuel has Colorado at -150. A draw is +270 and a Dallas win is at +410.

    1. He was listed as out last week. He’s been mostly training on his own. This week is the end of the initial timeline for Ronan. He’s probably a few weeks out. Good think Armas is comfortable with Bassett and Larraz now.
