LEÓN, Mexico – While America has been fixated on watching the Summer Olympics and following the likes of international footballers, Djordje Mihailović, Lindsey Horan, Sophia Smith, and Mallory Swanson, another Coloradoan – Rapids’ 18 going on 19-year old goalkeeper, Adam Beaudry, led his United States Youth National Soccer Team (USYNT) to the Concacaf U-20 Championship game.

Today, Beaudry and his fellow teenage Yanks played until exhaustion and lost to arch-rival Mexico 2-1 in extra time.

The runner-up U.S. team did not lift the handsome championship trophy, but their stellar play throughout the tournament earned them an invitation to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup Tournament.

The USA collected a perfect 3W-0L-0D record to finish atop Group A. They defeated Costa Rica 1-0, Cuba 4-0, and Jamaica 9-0. Beaudry started twice and delivered two clean sheets.

In quarterfinal play, Beaudry’s brilliant 90th-minute plenty kick save sealed the Americans’ 1-0 win against Guatemala. Minutes later, he was called out as an American hero.

In his fourth start, he shut down Panama’s high-octane offense 1-nil.

This evening, he kept an upset-minded Mexico line-up out of his goal for the majority of the peppery game. The U.S. scored first on an electric goal from Nimfaaha Berchimas.

The Homegrown did pick up an early Christmas gift when a pressing Mexico side scored in the 69th minute and tied up the match. However, a comprehensive VAR called back the goal as a result of offsides. Then, at the 96th mark, Mexico scored a clear goal in front of Beaudry to send the 1-1 contest into extra time and, ultimately, a well-deserved win.

In the end, the Castle Pines and heir apparent to Rapids starting keeper Zach Steffen’s job hand-delivered three shutouts, gave up only two goals in regulation time, and was issued a yellow card for his rough and tough All-American attitude and defensive play.
