SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup tournament resumes tomorrow when the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT) faces-off with their oldest and most frequent opponent, Canada. The rivalry will be played in the tournament’s semifinal round.

Concurrent, Mexico will battle with Brazil. The winners will advance to the tournament’s championship match in San Diego’s soccer specific, Snapdragon Stadium.

The USA and Canada match will kick off at 8:15 p.m. MT. Paramount+, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ will broadcast the game.

On Sunday, the USWNT won 3-0 over a scrappy Columbia side. Lindsey Horan, Jaedyn Shaw and Jenna Nighswonger scored for the United States.

Canada advanced to the semifinal round by beating Costa Rica, 3-0. High flying Canada is undefeated in tournament play.

The match will be biggest test for both teams to-date.

The W Gold Cup semifinal will be the 14th time the USA and Canada have squared off in the knockout rounds of a competitive tournament.

According to Team Canada’s media guide, Canada is by far the most common opponent the USA has ever played in knockout round matches, with Brazil the next most frequent foe with seven such meetings.

This will be the 65th meeting all-time between the USA and Canada in a series that dates back to 1986 when the USWNT was in its second year of existence.

The U.S. has won 11 of the 13 previous meetings between the teams in knockout round play and also won on penalties, which is officially recorded as a draw in the final of 2008 Concacaf Olympic Qualifying. Canada’s lone win over the U.S. in a knockout round match was a 1-0 win in the semifinals of the delayed Tokyo Olympics.

During her post-practice exchange with members of the media, veteran Alex Morgan sounded off and made a prediction,

“It’s going to be a physical match against Canada .They had a tough test against Costa Rica having played them in the group stage and pretty much dominating.  Then Costa Rica coming to play again, and them having a tougher time trying to finish some chances. So for us, it’s just getting our bodies ready for this next game.”
