Seattle, Washington – Colorado Rapids take on Seattle Sounders midweek in their final game before ten days off. Burgundy Wave reached out to our old boss from SB Nation, Jeremiah Oshan, who now runs Sounder At Heart independently and full-time. We discus a number of Rave Green talking points to prepare you for the match.

We have to start with the news of the weekend. Nouhou Tolo was given a red card for throwing a ball at a fan at SKC. How’s the club and fanbase reacted to that? What does this mean for the lineup?

It’s been a range of emotions from people saying they are fed up with Nouhou and never want to see him again to far more tempered reactions of welcoming his back whenever. It’s not so much anger as it is frustration though. I suspect we’ll see him again but this is just the latest in a growing string of mental lapses. For now, I think we’ll see Jon Bell take over the spot at fullback.

Stefan Frei is out with a head injury (get well). That could make life easier for Rafael Navarro or Djordje Mihailović if there’s a penalty. What can we expect from Andrew Thomas in goal? What is he good at?

Thomas has about 20 first team appearances under his belt at this point. Hes very athletic, good shot stopper. I think most are pretty confident in him.

The offense has spread the ball around recently. Is it a coincidence or the plan? Any concern that there isn’t a 2021 Raul Ruidiaz on the team? Who starts at center forward in this game?

Scoring has been spread around but the no. 9 spot does have 10 goals between Danny Musovski (6 league goals) and Jordan Morris (4), who has missed a ton of time through injury. Morris is likely coming off bench after starting on Saturday.

It was good to see the news this week that MLS teams in the Club World Cup got the bag. On the field, Seattle has taken 7 points from 3 games back from the CWC. Safe to say there wasn’t a hangover or fatigue from it? How’s it going to impact this season, financially or otherwise?

Definitely remains to be seen how the CWC money gets reinvested in team. But there’s obviously some hope at least some of that goes into a U22. In the short term, the Sounders came out of CWC feeling very confident and that seems to have been reflected in their play. We’ll see if there are any longer term implications.

Lastly, got a prediction for us? The CLink (do people still call it that?) has not been a happy road trip for the Rapids historically. It will be Josh Atencio’s homecoming though.

I don’t hear Lumen Field called that much anymore and you’re right about the Rapids’ historic performance here (although they got a point in their last trip). I’ll predict a 2-1 Sounders win.
