Commerce City, Colo.- Colorado Rapids midfielder Connor Ronan could be on the move this summer. Aberdeen FC are reportedly interested in signing him, as first reported by Daily Record and then Press and Journal. Sources tell Burgundy Wave the player is open to the move but has not been unhappy with his three and a half years in MLS.

Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson was appointed in March 2026. He was St Mirren manager for the latter part of 2021-22, where Ronan was a loan player at for that season. Ronan then made a permanent move from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Colorado in 2023. Ronan played well under Robinson and the manager would like to bring him to Aberdeen.

Ronan performing well in his first season in America. He’s been a serviceable midfielder. Good at many things as a number 8 or 6, but not a star player. He joined the club to play with former Wolves teammate Jack Price, but an Achilles injury saw Price miss most of that season then leave the club.

Ronan, now 28-years-old, rotated with Oli Larraz in midfield in 2024. A leg injury, ankle injury, and appendectomy kept him from getting any rhythm in 2025. A leg injury in the third game of the season saw him miss six weeks this year. He got regular minutes once back from injury. While he’s had injuries at unlucky times, I would not describe him as injury prone.

The Irish International is a useful player, good teammate, and depth piece. He’s a great first midfielder off the bench. At his best, he’s a good player on a great team where he’s not the best midfielder.

He’s coming to the end of a four-year contract with team options for each of the next two seasons. He got his green card July of last year, so doesn’t take up an International Slot in MLS. His guaranteed comp in 2026 is $562,400. That’s a bit high for a guy who’s not a locked in starter.

Ronan is a good placer. He is getting close to 30. It makes sense that eventually, he’d move back to the UK at some point.

For a Rapids’ perspective, I see the argument for both keeping him and selling him. He’s a bit older for the club model to not be a starter. Wayne Frederick II has been great. Frederick and Josh Atencio are younger than Ronan. Sell Ronan, use that money to invest in a U22 signing at that position.

At the same time, middle tier foreign signings can be hard to get right. Ronan has been good, even great at times. He raises the floor of the midfield.

It probably comes down to transfer fee and how much the player pushes for a move. $500,000 could do it if Colorado has a plan for another midfielder signing in the works. TransferMarkt has his current value at $1.4 million, which seems high.

I put the move at 50% odds to happen at present. Scotland’s transfer window opens Monday, June 15. MLS’s secondary transfer window opens Monday July 13.
