Denver, Colo. – It was a standing room crowd of supporters and a subset of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra in Denver’s Union Station Great Hall. Summit players Ally Brazier and Kaleigh Brazier, sported Denver Summit’s Inaugural Evergreen kit to the delight of the audience.

Summit refers to the kit as more than a uniform, “It’s a declaration of arrival and a love letter to the place we call home.”

Designed in cooperation with uniform supplier Nike, the kit honors Colorado’s untamed beauty. The development process which normally is a two-year process was condensed to just a few months. “Every single thing that’s been a part of this franchise has been a whirlwind, to be honest,” Controlling Owner Rob Cohen told Burgundy Wave. “It was just a year ago that we were awarded a franchise and everything that’s been created since then all had to happen in the last 12 months.”

Sources tell Burgundy Wave the deadline for a non-template kit with existing Nike colors was before the team name was public. There is a chance the kit had to be finalized before the crest was finalized. All things considered, not bad.

“One of the first things we did was lock down our custom colors. If not, you end up with standard colors that come off the rack, which most teams have had,” Cohen added.

Officially the colors are Evergreen, Colorado Blue, Snow, Granite, and Sandstone. On theme.

The bright sunlight that illuminated the hall brought out both the green and a hint of blue in the primary jersey. The evergreen-green is said to be an ode to the forests of the Rocky Mountains, symbolizing both the endurance of the landscape and the rugged people of Colorado. The color white reflects Colorado’s snow, black- granite and red, sandstone.

Nicely complementing the green are subtle tonal stripes that are woven into the sleeves, sides and neckline. These accent colors mimic Denver’s iconic azure sky, Colorado’s high desert plains and native sagebrush. The shorts that accompany the jersey are green, with tapering light blue and sage stripes on the sides, along with a thin sage trim.

The knee covering socks are light blue with white Nike swooshes on the front. A bold swoosh also exists on the upper right side of the face of the jersey. Directly across, on the upper left side, is the team’s vibrant crest, a very classic shield representing tradition, strength and pride.

The goalkeeper’s jersey that was displayed had a mosaic of shapes and patterns on a soft lavender fabric. Absent was the lead front-of-the-jersey sponsor’s moniker.

Cohen summed up the status jersey sponsor with this statement, “We will have a front-of-shirt sponsor. I was hoping to have one for today but couldn’t get all the t’s crossed and i’s dotted, but that will just be another first that we’ll get to celebrate.”

That unveiling will come during yet another upbeat celebration. And one that will mirror the kit unveiling, complete with champagne, fresh squeezed orange juice and fine French pastries, and hopefully with the Colorado Symphony gracefully playing in the background.

Most expansion teams in American Soccer have a template kit in their first year. Given those expectations, the Evergreen kit isn’t bad.
