Nick Cushing Denver Summit Coaching Staff

Denver, Colo. – Ahead of his team joining the Coachella Valley Invitational soccer tournament, Denver Summit’s Head Coach, Nick Cushing, announced his first assistant coaching staff.

Cushing has appointed Angela Salem and Alan Mahon as his assistant coaches, Karen Bardsley as Goalkeeping Coach, and James Mitchell as the Summit’s Video Coach.

In a team press release, Cushing said, “Our staff reflects the standards and ambition of this club from day one. Each of these individuals brings elite expertise, strong character, and a player-first mindset. Together, we are building an environment that supports high performance, development, and a style of football that our players and fans will be proud of.”

The foursome brings a mix of collegiate, professional and international experience to Cushing’s side.

Angela Salem is a former North American Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) standout. player. She spent 12 seasons between Portland Thorns FC, Boston Breakers, and Western New York Flash. She has served as an Assistant Coach with Bay FC and Washington Spirit. 

Alan Mahon played for Blackburn Rovers, Wigan Athletic, Burnley, and Sporting CP. He has coached within the ranks of the Republic of Ireland Women’s National Team and Manchester City Women.

Karen Bardsley is a great hire. She brings to Denver one a decorated career as a keeper. At the collegiate level, she played at Cal State Fullerton. Bardsley went on and earn over 80 caps for England and won several trophies during her tenure with Manchester City. She has coached at the academy development level and with elite footballers.

Most recently, James Mitchell was a Football Analyst with Arsenal Women, and has also worked with the Scotland Women’s National Team during the 2024 Nations League.

Cushing has assembled a good staff that he has familiarity with and who have a good understanding of the league. This should help with the learning curve for Cushing, who has experience in MLS and England’s Women’s Super League.
